Storage battery

The storage battery is the center of onboard electrosystem Audi 80. Various consumers of a food use a stock of its energy, and the storage battery from the generator is charged.

Work principle

The electrode (lead plate) contacts to the dissolved sulfuric acid (electrolit) and gives under the influence of solution positive ions, that is electricly the charged chastets, to electrolit. Thereby between electrolit and a lead plate electric tension is created.

However the tension created as a result of "voluntary" transition of charged particles, not enough, and on the accumulator submit a charge voltage. As a result of it sulfate of lead of the discharged battery room of the battery turns on a positive electrode into lead dioxide, and on the negative – in spongy lead. At the same time in electrolit sulfuric acid, an external sign of almost complete process of a charging – emergence of vials of gas is again formed.

At a discharge of the accumulator there is a return process. Dioxide of lead of a positive plate and spongy lead negative again turn into lead sulfate, and sulfuric acid is spent, and water is formed. Therefore with a discharge of the storage battery the acid density decreases.

Designation of the storage battery

In the Audi 80 models with 4-and 5-cylinder engines the storage battery is located behind on the right in a motor compartment. In models with the 6-cylinder engine: the accumulator is located at the left ahead in a motor compartment. On installation sites it is protected by a cover.
On Audi 80 the following storage batteries are established:

  • 12 In Aч, standard number 54045 (all 4-cylinder engines)
  • 12 In Aч, standard number 56318 (5-and 6-cylinder engines)

Parameters of the storage battery

Tension and capacity: in designation 12 In Aч the first (12 In), of course, specifies tension. Behind inclined line the current which the accumulator is capable to give for a unit of time is given – Aч means ampere-hours. It is the nominal capacity of the battery measured according to standard conditions. In practice it is necessary to count only on 2/3 specified ampere-hours; at older accumulator only on a half.

Current of cold scrolling: number 220 And or 300 And specifies a current which the storage battery can give at temperature a minus 18°С.

Standard number: the five-place number serves at all German producers of storage batteries for accumulator identification. For Audi the corresponding numbers are 54045 or 56318. The first (5) means tension of the storage battery of 12 V.Sleduyushchiye then figures 40 or 63 specify accumulator capacity. Both last figures designate constructive signs, such as model, a polyusnost, a hose for removal of gases and an otbortovka.
