Fuel pump

At all versions of Audi 80 engines the fuel pump with an electric drive is established in the case of a toplivozabornik located below in a fuel tank. He receives an electric food via the relay of the fuel pump. It is necessary to mention containing in the control unit of system of ignition/injection shutdown of the storage battery which ensures functioning of the pump only when the engine works.

Shutdown of the storage battery should prevent ignitions because of the fuel which has flowed out as a result of failure or road accident.

Search of malfunctions of the fuel pump

It is so possible to check, whether submits fuel the fuel pump: on a socket place at the left near a shock-absorber rack (here it is shown on a car example with system of injection of KE-III-Jetronic) to disconnect the fuel bringing pipeline (2). A hose (1) to put on bringing pipeline and to lower the free end in any capacity.
3–fuel drain pipeline;
4–the ventilating pipeline from a fuel tank to a tank with absorbent carbon.


 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. First of all to check a safety lock (head Body electrosystem).
  2. If it as it should be, it is necessary to look for further:
  3. Sometimes it is possible to establish by listening, whether the fuel pump works: to listen under the car at height of a fuel tank, whether the fuel pump while the assistant includes ignition turns on.
  4. If the work sound, the pump is audible, probably, is serviceable. If it was audible nothing, it is necessary to check, whether fuel arrives:
  5. Models with the 4-cylinder engine and system of injection of Mono-Motronic: to disconnect a tube conducting to the block of preparation of gas mixture, in a place of shtutserny connection. To put on a hose proceeding from a fuel tank, the extension piece and to lower its end in any capacity.
  6. The assistant should include a starter at this time. Now fuel should arrive.
  7. Models with the 4-cylinder engine and system of injection of Digifant: to disconnect bringing pipeline ahead on the distributive pipeline, to put on a hose extension piece and to lower the free end in any capacity.
  8. The assistant should include a starter at this time. Now fuel should arrive.
  9. Models with the 5-cylinder engine and system of injection of KE-III-Jetronic: To weaken screw connection on bringing топливопроводе – to keep in readiness a rag, to clean following gasoline.
  10. Even at the idle engine a little gasoline because the system of supply of fuel is under pressure thanks to the fuel accumulator now should act.
  11. If appears nothing, the assistant should include a starter.
  12. Now the fuel pump should start to submit gasoline.
  13. All models: if moves nothing, it is necessary to check the multicontact tip above on a protective flange of a fuel tank and to find out, whether receives the pump power supply:
  14. To unscrew a rug of a luggage compartment.
  15. To remove a black metal cover.
  16. To remove the multicontact tip.
  17. To check volmetry or a control lamp, whether is available between shtekerny contacts 1 and 4 (a brown and greenish-yellow wire) tension approximately in 12 V.Dlya of measurement is necessary, that the assistant included a starter (the transmission lever in neutral situation, the car on the parking brake).
  18. If the pump does not work, despite receipt of a food, means, it is faulty (to remove and replace).
  19. If a food does not arrive, under suspicion the pump relay in the central switchboard gets. Its check is described in head «Body electrosystem».
  20. Other reasons can be: defective conducting to the relay or the pump, the hammered or bent hose топливопровода, hammered the filter of rough cleaning or the fuel accumulator.

Removal of the fuel pump

On an example of this opened fuel tank it is shown, how the fuel pump acts in film. However the special tool (1) which turns an internal part of the case (a toplivozabornik 2) a little to the left is for this purpose necessary. The tool should get the paws (arrow) to dredging on an internal part.

For installation of the fuel pump (1) with an internal part of the case of a toplivozabornik (2) in an external part (3) it is necessary to observe the correct provision of installation: on the front-wheel Audi models the mark in an internal part of the case of a toplivozabornik should be opposite to a mark in an external part (shooters on the left illustration). On the all-wheel drive Audi model the double mark in an internal part of the case of a toplivozabornik should settle down opposite to a mark in an external part (shooters on the right illustration).

It already belongs to those types of works which the workshop because the fuel pump is taken out together with an internal part of the case of a toplivozabornik should carry out, and it can be taken out from an external part of a toplivozabornik only by means of a special key 3307. The one who can hire a similar key, should operate as follows:

  1. To remove the multicontact tip.
  2. To squeeze fixing plates on a tip of the drain pipeline and to remove a hose.
  3. To turn off submitting топливопровод.
  4. To unscrew a plastic cap nut. As a rule, she sits very densely. Therefore it is necessary to take probably more stupid screw-driver, to put it to one of edges of a nut and to weaken a nut easy postukivaniye a hammer on a core of the handle of a screw-driver. If necessary to repeat on other sides.
  5. Now it is possible to raise a protective flange of a fuel tank a little.
  6. On inside of a protective flange (as well as outside) to squeeze fixing plates on a tip of the drain pipeline and to extend a hose down.
  7. To disconnect the tip from the fuel sensor.
  8. To establish a special key 3307 on inside of the case of a toplivozabornik and to turn it to the left against the stop.
  9. To take out the fuel pump with an internal part and a protective flange from a tank.
  10. Precisely to remember to (note) the provision of installation of the pump, tubes, wires and bandages of wires because at installation all elements again should be collected precisely in the same look.
  11. After a detachment of the delivery pipeline (situation at installation) it is possible to disconnect the fuel pump from an internal part of the case of a toplivozabornik. It occurs differently depending on pump option:
  12. 60-millimetric pump: to turn on the left a grid located below on inside of the case of a toplivozabornik, to take out the fuel pump. At installation the ledge sideways on the pump should enter into a groove. To watch a sealing ring.
  13. 40-millimetric pump: to squeeze a blocking bracket above on an internal part of the case of a toplivozabornik, to take out the pump. At installation the pump can be put only in one situation.
  14. It is necessary to pay attention: at the front-wheel Audi 80 models the mark in outer side should be opposite to an unary notch (mark) in inside. At all-wheel drive models it should be opposite to a double notch.
  15. Internal part again to tighten by means of a key 3307. To establish other details.
  16. The provision of a protective flange at installation: the arrow on a flange should be opposite to a mark in a fuel tank.
