(A series of a body 89) a class D for the rounded design and a "plump" form боковин bodies at us in the country nicknamed the third generation of Audi 80 "barrel". Configuration with a longitudinal arrangement of the engine appeared very convenient for Quattro versions (89Q) with the constant full (integrated) drive serving for improvement of only road performance, instead of for passableness increase (a road clearance, as at front-wheel drive vehicles). On "eight-ten" an early series established the most various petrol engines: carburetor (on the early version), with the central and distributed injection, with a turbo-supercharging in working volume from 1,6 to 2,3 l ("turbopyaterka"), and also economic 1,6-1,9-liter diesel engines and turbodiesels. The Audi 90 model with other bumpers, equipped with mainly ryadny "pyaterka", only not much more surpassed "eight-ten" in equipment level. The three-door hatchback of sports type with the truncated wheel base was called Coupe. It differed the closest back part of salon with very small (295-930 l) a luggage carrier. Its all-wheel drive Coupe Quattro version (series 89Q) was issued also. As a result of restyling of 1991 (a series of a body of B4) Audi 80 received other registration of forward and back parts of a body. The extended cowl was incorporated with the chromeplated front grille, bumpers of other form began to paint in color of a body. 15-inch wheels became standard. Access to a luggage carrier was facilitated, and its capacity began possible to increase at the expense of a thrown-back back of a back seat. There was a safety cushion. The Audi 90 model was laid off. Scale of engines expanded - from especially economic 1,9-liter turbodiesel with direct injection of fuel to 2,8-liter petrol V6. In the summer of 1991 there was the successful four-seater Cabrio which production proceeded very long. This model of one of the cabriolets first in a class (in June, 1995) received a turbodiesel. For winter operation since 1996 began to offer an easily removable aluminum roof with heating of back glass. Versatile persons of Audi 80 Avant appeared only in June, 1992. Despite not so capacious body, they appeared popular in a segment of versatile persons for the families which are fond of sports that was promoted in no small measure by all-wheel drive Quattro versions. Functionality of Avant was improved by a back seat put in parts. The solid age (even the "freshest" models already entered into age notorious "semiletok") does not prevent "barrel" to remain one of popular models in the domestic secondary market (at least, in the European territory). Its body thanks to an otsinkovka differs permanent anticorrosive protection, but on beaten copies there can be disguised centers of corrosion from inept repair. At excellent ergonomics of a forward part of salon (unless there is no ceiling lighting) on a back seat of all updatings of family to passengers of high growth there is closely, as in domestic "Samarakh". Visibility and road performance of "barrel" quite correspond to world requirements, but the power steering is not on all updatings and the luggage carrier volume is a little small. The resource of engines is great (happens much more 300 thousand km), but directly depends on timeliness of carrying out servicing and quality of applied materials (oils, filters and so forth) . At many engines big (for the unknown reasons) a consumption of oil. All-wheel drive Quattro versions it is more difficult in service and repair, but at the expense of it and are more expensive not usual front-wheel versions. The simplest and reliable there are moderately equipped versions with petrol "chetverka" with monoinjection.
