The transmission and the main transfer are located at Audi 80, as almost at all front-wheel cars, in one general case.
The torque from the engine gets to the main transfer through one small and one big gear wheel. The differential case is fastened to a big gear wheel. In this case there are four conic gear wheels which were in gearing, from which two are connected with leading semi-axes.
Until the car moves directly, both lobbies of a wheel turn with frequency of a big gear wheel of the main transfer. Conic gear wheels of the differential rotating at the same speed, on the contrary, stand. When passing turn the external wheel should pass longer way, than located in turn. Conic gear wheels then start to work: faster rotation of an external wheel and its conic gear wheel affects through both satellite conic gear wheels a conic gear wheel on inside of turn which respectively rotates more slowly.
This alignment is necessary, differently the car on turns would move breakthroughs with sliping forward wheels. However existence of differential can appear and a shortcoming, for example, if one of driving wheels is scrolled on a slippery surface. Then to other forward wheel it is not transferred almost any draft, the car does not get under way from a place.
