Power shafts

In order that at movement of the car and management of it you did not feel any influences of change of a mode of movement on management, hinges of power shafts should transfer the moment absolutely evenly in all positions of shock-absorbers and a steering column.

It is a problem of the hinges located on the ends of power shafts. In a series of the Audi 80 models we deal with two various types of hinges:

  • From a wheel and a transmission there are so-called gomokinetichesky hinges (hinges of equal angular speeds – CV JOINTS). Their action is based on six spheres which when bending the hinge move in specially ground paths of a kacheniye. Thus, absolutely uniform transfer of the moment is provided at any, admissible in the car, an angle of rotation of a power shaft. Hinges of equal angular speeds stand on all cars with a mechanical transmission with 4-and 5-cylinder engines, and also on all all-wheel drive models (ahead and behind). On models from AKP and models with the 6-cylinder engine they stand as external hinges.
  • From a transmission – that is as internal hinges – on cars from AKP and cars with the 6-cylinder engine (front-wheel) so-called hinges of equal angular speeds "Tripod" are established. Instead of six spheres this hinge is supplied with three rollers on needle bearings. Advantage of this design: insignificant transfer of fluctuations from a drive to a body.
