Speedometer

Earlier to us the speedometer which was put in action by flexible shaft – speedometer shaft was habitual. Absolutely in a different way in Audi 80: its speedometer is the electronic measuring device similar to a tachometer. The same as a tachometer, he receives impulses of frequency of rotation – but not from the engine, and from the sensor in a transmission. There frequency of rotation of wheels is measured. The device correlates impulses of turns to a temporary factor and thus receives reference size for speed.

In the absence of a mechanical drive the counter of the passable way functions partially electricly: the so-called step-by-step engine turns a power shaft of transmission of the counter step by step further – depending on number of impulses of turns.

Advantages of an electronic speedometer: silent drive, more exact indicators.

If the speedometer does not work, it is necessary to check at first the corresponding safety lock in a compartment for safety locks.

Sensor of impulses of a speedometer

At the left in front on a transmission we see the tip of the switch of a headlight of a backing (1) and the sensor of impulses of a speedometer (2). For removal of the sensor of impulses of a speedometer after pressing a safety bracket separate the tip (3), press down a latch (shooter), turn the sensor of impulses and extend it.

Impulses of turns for a speedometer proceed from the gerkonovy sensor at the left on a transmission. Gerkon is the contact group tightly closed and located in a gas cover. Contact becomes isolated, if it is influenced by a magnetic field. In order that геркон delivered impulses, it should become isolated and be disconnected in beat frequencies of rotation. Therefore the wheel with the dredging, rotating in front of the sensor, influences the magnetic field influencing contact group.

Check of the sensor of impulses of a speedometer

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. To lift the left forward wheel.
  2. To wring out a fixing bracket on the tip of the sensor and to remove it.
  3. To connect an ohmmeter to both contacts of the sensor and now slowly to turn the left wheel a hand.
  4. Indicators of an ohmmeter should fluctuate between 0 Ohm and.
  5. If it not so, it is necessary to replace the sensor.

Removal of the generator of impulses of a speedometer

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. To wring out a fixing bracket on the tip of the sensor and to remove it.
  2. Slightly to press down a latch on a fixing bracket and a few to turn the sensor to the right (clockwise).
  3. To extend the sensor from a transmission.
  4. At installation pay attention to the correct landing of a rubber sealing ring.
